I Need Some Things

2 wooden blocks with the words "wanrs" and "needs" printed on them.

Inspired by “The Gathering, Step 1” by Jim Rosemergy, Unity Minister.

Have you ever wished for something that you didn’t have or thought you didn’t have? Have you ever prayed for something and expected it to happen right away? Have you ever had thoughts like the following?:

I think I need some things.

I think I need some things that I don’t have.

I need some things that I don’t have right now.

I need some things that will help me very much.

I need some things because I lack them right now.

I am not needy, but I know some other people who are needy.

When will God ever give me what I need? It seems so slow.

I will pray and tell God what I need. He/She/It probably has no idea what I need right now.

The reason I need some things is because I don’t have them. Duh… I used to have some things, but now I need them back. What did you do then? Did you just repeat the same prayer? Ufff. Why weren’t you answered?

Why do I have these health challenges? When will I be healed? What do I need to do? (The word “healed” includes the idea of a health challenge, doesn’t it. Try the word “wholeness” and see how that feels.)

The lilies of the field reportedly have what they need.

Ah ha! Now we are getting someplace. The issue is… how to pray and get results.

How can we get what we really need? Actually we already have thousands of things we need such as: air, water, warmth, food, transportation, social security, bank accounts,, friends, clubs, church, credit cards, computers, printers, TV, vacations, medicine, etc.

Jesus said. “Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Did you do that yet? It seems to be really important. After all, Jesus said it! Wait a minute, is it that simple? How could it be that simple? It seems so complicated. Let’s try this idea again.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” But... I’m sick.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” How could wasting time on this scripture bring results? I tried God once and it didn’t work. After all, what about World Peace?”

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Why are “You” repeating this statement, I know all about it?

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” I guess I could try it. But how?

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Can’t see a thing.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Can’t hear a thing.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Maybe if I just shut up and listen…

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Hmm.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Something is going on here!

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” I seem to be more relaxed.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” You know there is something I could do. I’m not too sure what it is, but I will relax and let it be.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God.” I’m really glad I meditated on this.

Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Wow! I think I will tell somebody about this. Hmm. It seems like I’m the one who has changed.

Doctor says, “I see some remission…”
