Spiritual Social
Action
Our CommUNITY Outreach
Social Action is intentional action in support
of bringing about change for the better in some
aspect of life connected with human society in
general. Its intention is to afford fair
treatment and benefits to all.
Spiritual social action is based on belief in
the sanctity and sacredness of human life, on
the understanding that the essence of all human
beings is of God. Respect, a universal need that
too often goes unmet, is rooted in the essential
human dignity that comes from knowing that the
Christ Presence is within all of us.

Men's Shelter
This is the shelter for
homeless men. The
Men's Shelter always
needs things for men:
socks, underwear,
supplies for GED
classes, toiletries,
towels, washcloths, hats
and gloves.
There is a yoga class
given once per week
also.

Several people from
Unity have volunteered
on building housing with
Habitat Matthews.
|
The
Salvation Army and its
satellite programs will
house and provide case
management for more than
350 homeless women.
The Center of Hope is
the Salvation Army's
shelter for homeless
women and children for
whom we collect
household items.
The Center of Hope
always needs things for
women, babies and
children: formula,
disposable diapers,
toiletries, towels,
washcloths and warm
clothing.

St. Andrews United
Methodist Church
We have
assisted in the
serving of dinner one
evening a week for
families of children who
attend the elementary
school across the
street.
We are exploring ways to
cooperate with them
during the winter months
including meals for
homeless neighbors.
We anticipate
cooperating with them in
their participation in
Room in the Inn during
the winter months.
|
One of the reasons we are focusing on helping
homeless neighbors is that the official number
given for homeless people in Charlotte, NC, is
presently 6500. Those who know say there
are more than that.

Healing Hands
Dear God, let my hands be
always hands of healing through which your life may radiate to lessen pain, to
bring a renewal of peace and healing wherever needed.
Dear God, let my hands
bring through their touch some essence of your love flowing through them to
bring comfort and joy. I offer my hands as a channel; use them as your healing
tools.
