What is prayer Exactly?

Prayer can be a trans-formative experience rather than a means to an end. Instead of praying for peace, prayer offers the opportunity to feel inner peace through the experience itself. Peace is found in prayer. Prayer establishes a peaceful state to welcome healing prosperity, love and guidance. Prayer is not simply a request or an alternative to taking action. It is the basis of action (Unity Principle #5). No matter the circumstances, when we pray we actively restore peace within.

For more than a century, Unity has been praying with you and other friends around the world (Principle #4). It is the core of our ministry. It is a privilege for us to join with you in your practice. If you have a prayer request at this time, please share it with us. We will provide you with the tools to fully experience inner peace and to set intentions that will carry you forward.

The spirit and power of God (Principle #1), resides within me (Principle #2). It is available at all times, anywhere, any hour of day or night. My spiritual consciousness escalates and soars to higher heights when I pray. I am aware that the faith of prayer strengthens and sustains me regardless of serious challenges. I survive and prosper.

Prayer leads to peace. In affirmative prayer we find peace. It is not something to request from God, rather inner peace is something we feel and experience through prayer. It goes far beyond “Dear God give me something.” When we expand and fully participate in our prayer practice, we find restoration. We take comfort in our peace within.

I allow my heart to open; and my mind to quiet. I am open to the potential of understanding that is everywhere available to me. I comprehend and have insight available to me in this moment (Principle #3). The Spirit of the Universe understands that prayer allows me to welcome my true knowledge.

The prayer of social action allows me to be willing, available and open to help make the world a better place. It is a practical activity that puts feet on my prayers. In addition to affirming health, peace and good for all; we find ways to bring it about for all those around us.

Beginning Again
by Frank B. Whitney (1889-1938),
Editor of The Daily Word for 14 years.

It matters not what may befall,
Beyond all else I hear the call
“You can begin again.”
My courage rises when I hear
God's voice allay the thought of fear
And when He whispered gently near.
“You can begin again.”

When once quite all the world seemed wrong.
Throughout it's din I heard this song.
“You can begin again.”
And inner joy within me stirred,
I treasured each assuring word.
My heart was lifted when I heard
“You can begin again.”

Begin again? Another chance?
Can even I make an advance?
“You can begin again.”

Begin at once by taking heart
And knowing God—of you He's part!
New life to you He will impart.
“You can begin again.”
