The Untold Value of Our Presence
...with William Gregory—a Unity spiritual teacher and facilitator known for helping communities understand the quiet, trans-formative power of consciousness. His work centers on how individuals shape collective environments—not through force or charisma, but through the quality of their inner life. People listen to him because he teaches from lived experience: decades of guiding groups, mediating conflict, and cultivating grounded spiritual practice. When he speaks about presence, he is naming something we all feel but rarely articulate.
His central insight is simple and profound: “Our presence is already shaping the room.” Long before we speak or take action, we are already shaping our world. Human beings communicate constantly, even in silence. Our posture, our breath, our attention, and the state of our inner life all radiate outward. We carry tone. We carry energy. We carry intention. And whether we realize it, others feel it.
A grounded person brings a quiet steadiness that settles the space around them. A joyful person lifts the atmosphere without saying a word. A tense or guarded heart can create distance, even when the face is smiling. This is mystical and it is the reality of how humans attune to one another. We are immersed in our environment; we influence it and others continuously.
This is why our presence is important. It is foundational. Culture—whether in a home, a workplace, a spiritual community, or a circle of friends—is built by presence. Strategies matter, and presence adds to the story. The deeper architecture of culture is formed by the quality of consciousness we bring into each space. Our presence adds to the atmosphere others breathe.
When we enter a room with curiosity, people feel invited. When we enter with judgment, people shrink. When we enter with openness, others relax into possibility. When we enter with concern, the space tightens around us.
Every moment, we are contributing to the emotional climate by the simple truth of who we are being.
This is an invitation to awareness. Presence is something we can cultivate—slowly, gently, intentionally. It grows through practices that anchor us: breathing, listening, pausing before reacting, noticing our assumptions, choosing compassion over speed. Over time, these small inner shifts reshape the our world.
Your presence matters more than you know. There are louder voices that also shape a community, but presence is a most centered one. The most charismatic person may set the tone temporarily, but the one who carries clarity, kindness, and steadiness into the room has a strong effect too.
So the question becomes: What kind of presence are you choosing to cultivate—and what kind of community are you helping to create through it?
Your presence is already speaking. Your influence is larger than you realize. It is consciously possible to increase it. Make it something that builds, softens, and opens the world around you. We are centers of spiritual energy — our “aura,” or field of awareness, affects others.
Unity teaches that Divine Mind is the source of all consciousness. Our presence is an expression of that Mind, not just a personality trait but a spiritual practice. We co‑create our world through our consciousness. Presence is an immediate form of co‑creation.
