Create Something

Pure potential substance, blue triangles

A Sacred Invitation

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” —Genesis 1:2

The Stillness Before the Spark

Creation begins not with noise, but with stillness. Before light, before form—there was only potential. And the Spirit of God, poised above the waters, waiting. This ancient image reminds us: creativity is not a rare talent reserved for the chosen few. It is a birthright. A sacred impulse woven into the fabric of being human.

We are all creators. Each of us is invited to shape the formless into beauty, meaning and truth.

A Dialogue with the Divine

The universe is not indifferent to our efforts. On the contrary, it seems to respond—sometimes subtly, sometimes boldly—when we engage in authentic creative acts. There is a Source: an infinite wellspring of energy, inspiration and Substance that meets us in our intention.

Whether composing a symphony, planting a garden, writing a poem, or designing a spacecraft, we are not merely making things. We are participating in sacred creation with the cosmos.

The Doorway to Flow

To access this creative current, we must first quiet the noise. Forests, seascapes and sunrises offer portals into deeper awareness. Even simple rituals—like opening a book to a random page and reading the first line—can spark unexpected insight.

Creativity does not respond to force. It blossoms in the presence of curiosity, patience and play. It thrives when we are gentle with ourselves. We all desire to create: certainty, variety, significance, connection, growth, contribution.

Beyond Metrics and Applause

In a world obsessed with productivity and performance, it’s easy to forget: the value of art is not measured by likes, sales, or applause. Charles Dickens, for instance, believed that sleeping facing north aligned him with the earth’s energy and enhanced his creativity. Eccentric? Perhaps. But it speaks to a deeper truth: great art often emerges from a place beyond reason.

The spiritual realm offers no proof—only presence. And that is enough.

The Timeless and the True

Those who immerse themselves in timeless literature, rather than the churn of daily headlines, often develop a keener sensitivity to the subtle rhythms of inspiration. They understand that creativity is not a tool for persuasion or politics—it is a channel for truth.

When we create to change minds or win approval, we risk diluting the purity of the work. But when we create from the heart, without agenda, we tap into something eternal.

The Quiet Offering

The creative path is not without hardship. Many artists labor for years with little recognition. A composer may pour their soul into a symphony that garners only a handful of listens. A novelist may face rejection after rejection.

Yet commercial success is a poor barometer of worth. The true audience is the self—and the universe, which always listens, even in silence.

To create something—anything—is to affirm that life still holds promise. It is a quiet act of opportunity, a declaration that beauty matters.

And in this way, every creative act becomes a sacred offering. A reminder that the Spirit still hovers over the waters, waiting for us to begin. Start!
