A Spiritual Paraphrase—Inspired by Psalm 85.
This psalm was almost certainly written after the return from the Babylonian captivity (538 BC) and is attributed to the sons of Korah, a Levitical guild of temple singers and musicians; not by David nor by a single named author. The community had returned home, but harvests were poor, morale was low, the temple was only partially rebuilt, and spiritual renewal lagged. This Psalm calls for revival, steadfast love, truth, righteousness, and peace.
Beloved Presence, You restore us again and again.
Your goodness lifts us, your grace gathers us home.
Every moment is a new beginning in You.
You dissolve the heaviness of yesterday.
You release every burden we have carried.
You open the way before us with compassion.
Turn our hearts toward your Light.
Awaken in us the remembrance that
We are never separate from your Love.
Guide us into the life that is already ours in Spirit.
Surely your peace is near to all who listen.
Your wisdom rises within us.
Your harmony unfolds through us.
Your presence makes our path clear.
Love and Truth meet within the human heart.
Righteousness and Peace embrace in us.
We become instruments of blessing.
The earth responds to your goodness.
Prosperity springs up, right action goes before us.
Every step is guided by your indwelling Spirit.
We walk in the way prepared for us
—the way of peace, the way of love,
The way of divine fulfillment.
