Smashing Atoms

Atom being smashed into smaller particles

Albert Einstein was the physicist who in 1905 created the formula E=mc² that quantified how much energy was contained in matter. He also made many quotations that explained much of his other wisdom in the form of quotes. He probably influenced Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, who wrote Atom-Smashing Power of Mind, first published in 1949.

Einstein was offered the presidency position of Israel in 1952 as he neared the end of his life, but he declined due to his lack of people skills. He passed in 1955 but remains one of the most well-known scientists to date. He became one of the most quoted figures of all time in all areas: imagination, life skills, science and creativity.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence.”

“I believe in one thing—that only a life lived for others is a life worth living.”

“Where the world ceases to be the scene of our personal hopes and wishes, where we face it as free beings admiring, asking, observing, there we enter the realm of art and science. All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree.”

“He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, has his eyes closed.”

“A happy (hu)man is too satisfied with the present to dwell too much on the future.”

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”

“I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.”

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious.”

“Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world.”

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence.”

“Small is the number of those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.”

“A person should look for what is, and not for what should be.”

“I am a Swiss citizen and by disposition a human being, without any special attachment to any state or national entity.”

I sometimes feel that I am right, but I do not know if I am.”

“Try not to become a success but rather try to become of value.”

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music. I cannot tell if I would have done any creative work of importance in music, but I do know that I get most joy in life out of my violin.”

“Our science is primitive and childlike—and yet it is a precious thing we have.”

“Sometimes, surrounded by all this good cheer,
I’m puzzled by some of the things that I hear,
And wonder, my mind for a moment not hazy,
If I and not they, could really be crazy.”
